Kimi Ora Special Needs Base School

Bell Kelly Beaumont Team Architects was commissioned by Kimi Ora School and the Ministry of Education to deliver a new BaseSchool at Naenae for a green-field site immediately adjacent to the sprawling NaenaeCollege and Naenae Intermediate.    The new school provides learning and therapy spaces for 24 students aged between 5 and 20 who require specialist care.  The resulting school complex is ‘an engaging and charming building, the product of a true collaboration between client and Architect’ according to the jury in the NZ Institute of Architects local Branch Awards programme 2012.

The project has been awarded a 5 Green Star New Zealand – Education 2009 Design and Built Certified Rating, one of the first schools to achieve both Design and Built Certified 5 Green star ratings in New Zealand.

NZIA Local Architecture Award – winner in the following categories: Public Architecture, Sustainable Architecture and Resene Colour Award categories.

Timber Design Awards – awarded Highly Commended in the Sustainability category.
